Artificial intelligence for digital marketers

A Day in the Life: How Digital Marketers Use Artificial Intelligence

In Automation, Content Marketing by KathrineFLeave a Comment

Love it or hate it, like it or not, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the world we live in. Unless you’ve been hiding out in a distant land somewhere (and even then…) you’ve likely heard how ChatGPT has taken the globe by storm.

As with anything “new,” public responses have ranged wildly, with many eagerly embracing it and some that consider it the mark of the devil that threatens to take over the world. Yikes!

Artificial Intelligence Isn’t Going Anywhere

Whatever stance you take, one point we can all agree on: AI is here to stay. Even Google is reeling, with one article stating the behemoth company once considered unshakable “is moving forward with plans to bring AI chat features to its core search engine as it works to keep pace with a wave of new artificial intelligence tools that could threaten the company’s dominance online for the first time in decades.”

In fact, by the time you’re reading this article, there are likely to be new developments in the world of AI, guaranteed. But AI itself isn’t really new. It’s been around for decades…

“Established as an academic discipline in the 1950s, AI remained an area of relative scientific obscurity and limited practical interest for over half a century. Today, due to the rise of Big Data and improvements in computing power, it has entered the business environment and public conversation.”

The Benefits (& Limitations) of AI

As a digital marketing company, we’re not afraid of new technology – we embrace it! And as many of our clients know, we’ve always been strong advocates of working smarter, not harder.

We do this by implementing smart tech automation, as well as a reduce, reuse, recycle approach to content. For us, incorporating AI tools such as Chat GPT has simply been a natural next step.

Whether you’re a coach, consultant, or really any business owner, incorporating AI into your daily activities can help save you time and money.

Here are just some of the benefits, all of which free up your time to focus on pursuing higher endeavors:How marketers use artificial intelligence

  • Automate repetitive tasks
  • Improve everyday processes
  • Lower the risk of human errors
  • Enable smarter decision-making
  • Reduce dependency on human staff (i.e. via chatbots)
  • 24/7/365 availability – no overtime!
  • Identify areas for improvement

What about the drawbacks? As with anything, there are some limitations:

  • Lack of emotional intelligence
  • Ho-hum, unimpressive creativity
  • Responses that may be biased, discriminatory and/or offensive
  • Issues with grammar, i.e. typos & out-of-context responses
  • Limitation of knowledge, especially on unfolding or current events
  • Potentially inaccurate and/or duplicate content

How Our Digital Marketing Experts Use Artificial Intelligence

Presently, the key areas we use AI in are:

  • Copywriting
  • Research
  • Verification

The most obvious use is copywriting. We have easily implemented AI into supporting our copywriting efforts for a range of tasks:

Of course, we still review all copy to ensure the quality our clients expect. One of the largest advantages we’ve seen is that programs such as ChatGPT have greatly helped to increase the efficiency and speed at which we can produce and remix content for a variety of uses.

Research has been another great application for ChatGPT. While Google has become increasingly difficult to navigate for quick, reliable stats and details, AI can now step in and aid us in finding the details we need in record time.

AI can also be used for SEO research purposes – while we don’t recommend you rely on it entirely, it can give you powerful insights and new ideas to improve your search engine rankings.

And there’s so much more AI can do for you. For instance, ChatGPT is a powerful AI tool to generate text, but it cannot create images. No worries – consider these options instead:

  • DALL·E 2: has the ability to create realistic images and art from a description in natural language.
  • Midjourney: similar to DALL·E 2, can generate images from natural language descriptions, called “prompts.”
  • Stable Diffusion: a text-to-image model often used to generate detailed images conditioned on text descriptions.

ChatGPT can help you write video scripts too; other potential AI tools to consider:

Basically, if you’re not using AI as part of your digital marketing strategy, you are missing out. Here are some of the most popular AI marketing tools you might incorporate. Test run a couple and see what results you get!

A Day in the Life of a Digital Marketer Using AI Like a Pro

Here’s what an average day for us might look like, with the incorporation of AI:

Use: Audience/Demographic Expansion Ideas
Example: Can you list some authors, similar to these, that coaches and business leaders are interested in: [LIST OF AUTHORS]

Use: Quick and simple policy-type copy
Example:  Can you help me write a privacy policy for this site, please: [SITE URL]

Use: Social media hashtag generation
Example:  What are some hashtags that aspiring, unpublished writers are using?

Use: Copywriting
Example: Could you look at this URL – [SITE URL] – and make 3 to 5 promotional emails based on what you find, including information about how accountability can help a business?

Use: Copy revisions
Example:  Can you soften the “salesiness” of this email: [EMAIL COPY]

Use: Call date QC
Example:  Compile the dates of the second Wednesday of each month in 2023.

Use: Enhance audio
Example: Please reduce background noise and improve voice clarity in this podcast: [AUDIO FILES]

Use: Content conversion
Example:  Can you convert this YouTube transcript into a blog with headers: [INSERT TRANSCRIPT]

As you can see, the potential with an AI tool like ChatGPT is huge – and this is only the beginning. Where will it lead us as a society? No one truly knows – this is new territory for all of us.

In the meantime, use common sense. At the end of every day, only you know what is best for your business, and your life.

“Some people call this artificial intelligence, but the reality is this technology will enhance us. So instead of artificial intelligence, I think we’ll augment our intelligence.”
— Ginni Rometty
