We will help ensure you have a custom URL/Domain name and a hosting account utilizing affordable and reliable service providers.

Getting your domain will require a bit of thought and investigation on your part to ensure that the name is something that meets the following criteria:

  • Availability – We recommend you use whois.com or namecheap.com to see if the domain you want is available.
  • Usability – We recommend you try to choose a domain that is easy to spell and say.
Many people are familiar with WordPress.com, however the ‘better’ way to establish your site is by using the self-hosted option of WordPress.org. In this workshop, we will help walk you through the one-time process of installing WordPress.org on your own host.
After we set-up your domain, hosting, and install WordPress, we will work on setting-up your custom email addresses. For example, these could be your name or info@yourcompany.com.
WordPress provides just the basic framework to start building your new site. Added functionality and features, as well as templates, are implemented through the use of a theme.

We will help guide you in choosing a theme and then establishing the settings that will make that theme most useful for years to come.

In addition to a theme, WordPress has an expansive library of Plugins to choose from. Plugins add specific functions and features to your site, much in the same way that an app helps to improve your smart phone.

We will help walk you through how to find plugins, evaluate them, install them and use them. Plus, we will get you started with our top recommended plugins.

With each theme and plugin, there are often expanded options to be found in the widgets.

We will help to simplify these options and show you how to best use them.

This is what it’s all about, right? Getting your content out to the world on a web page. Yes, we will show you how to EASILY do this as well. 🙂

We will also show you some time saving tips to help you after you leave the classroom.

Why should you blog? When should you blog? What should you blog about?

We will help answer all of these questions, plus show you HOW to actually publish a blog post.

SEO is the key to your website (and your business) being found on the internet.

Search Engine Optimization is the craft of understanding what people are searching for and how Google will search your page(s) so see if it’s a match.

We will explain this and show you some EASY tips and tools to help your organic SEO.

Once your site is up and running, you will want to measure how effective it is.

We will share some very easy ways to review website analytics as well as what you might do with that information.

Do You a New Website?

Alternatives

If you’re like most responsible business owners, you’re wondering what your alternatives might be. Or you’ve already done your research and you know that they are as follows…

Alternative One

Use a ‘starter’ website platform such as Wix, Weebly, 1 & 1, or a page builder provided by your hosting company.

No doubt, these will get you started. However, they won’t take you very far. Your SEO will be poor and you will be limited in functionality.

  • Fast & Easy
  • Poor Quality
  • Limited Functionality
  • High Probability of Error

Alternative Two

Figure it out on your own.

You’re probably a genius, but unless you have experience, you will waist more time and energy than necessary in trying to figure out the set-up.

Leaving you frustrated, your site launch delayed, and the possiblity of errors in the set-up.

  • Inexpensive
  • Time Consuming
  • High Probability of Error

Alternative Three

Hire a professional.

Let’s be honest, we would all choose to let a professional handle things if we could, right?

However the reality is that not everyone can afford the cost of a professional web designer, copywriter, and graphic designer.

So, corners have to be cut and choices have to be made.

  • DONE RIGHT!
  • Fast & Easy
  • Cost Prohibitive

If you do opt to learn on your own, let me recommend you at least take a look at our self-study program.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your plan is to leave this workshop with a functioning website, you must bring a laptop computer with you.

If you do not have a laptop, this is probably not the best workshop for you. And we do not recommend an iPad or any other tablet for this workshop.

We also recommend a notebook, pen, and some business cards (you never know who else might be in the room…).

We will provide water and some snacks.

We will provide water, coffee, breakfast bars, and light sandwiches.

We may not be able to accommodate special requests, so please be prepared if you have any unique needs.

Our goal will be to have everyone arrive with a URL and Hosting in place. However, we will work with you to get that set-up before your workshop if you need assistance.

If you need to purchase both a URL and hosting, we recommend getting them together for ease of access and because it can be less expansive.

If you already have your URL, we recommend a service such as SiteGround or Site5 for your hosting. They offer unlimited hosting options and unlimited email addresses.

If you already have a website, but want to change hosts, both Stie5 and SiteGround offer unlimited hosting, unlimited email addresses, and free site migration.

No Problem! Actually sometimes it’s easier to start with a ‘clean slate’. But if you would like to ‘get your feet wet’, you can have a look at WordPress.com and set up a free account.

While an established business isn’t a requirement, you will be a lot more clear about your objectives if your business already exists.
